Benedicta Mahlangu-Durcan

Benedicta is a Zulu woman who grew up mostly around the Durban area in KwaZulu Natal South Africa. As a black woman who spent the first 12 years of her life growing up in apartheid she flourished in the new democratic South Africa and won scholarships to attend a high school that was unaffordable for her parents. She has worked hard for every opportunity she has got and at university in Capetown Benedicta really accelerated by studying chemical engineering and getting scholarships from companies in the oil sector via her good grades to go and study in Germany where she learned to speak German. Upon finishing her university studies Benedicta made a truly brave decision and pushed boundaries when she went to work on off shore oil rigs and exploration vessels all over world via the renowned Schlumberger company. Benedicta did this work for 10 years before returning to live in Cape Town South Africa and work for the global shipping giant of Maersk for about two years. She was headhunted by the Saldanha Bay Industrial Development Zone which is a one of the major economic development projects that the South African government is running that is focused on developing the offshore oil and gas sector of the country to try and create much needed jobs for South Africans. As part of this role Benedicta travels the world promoting Saldanha bay project and attract foreign companies to invest in it and hence create much needed jobs for her country people. Due to her significant global experience in the oil and gas sector she commands respect from all those who speak to her and they are amazed at her journey that has seen her travel the world while applying her chemical engineering knowledge.
