Birgit Smythe achieved her degree in Electronic Engineering Cum Laude from UCT in 1995.
Her career started in the Telecommunications department at Eskom, who had given Birgit a bursary for her studies.
The Department of Communications hired Birgit as a facilitator in their program to educate B.Sc students from historically Black universities in IT skills.
From there she joined Cisco in a technical sales role and started specialising in Network Management.
After a founding role in a small IT company called Blue River Management, Birgit took a year off to have her first child.
In 2005 she started Eirteic Consulting (Africa) (Pty) Ltd, which was later renamed to Envisage Solutions (Pty) Ltd. In her role as Managing Director, Birgit has led Envisage with vision and dedication, while still spending her afternoons with her children. Envisage Solutions is a Level 1 BBBEE company, with 30% Black shareholding and employs a diverse team of people. In her field of specialisation, which is an IBM product called Netcool, Birgit and her company are known as the South African and Sub-Saharan African experts.
