Emma Dicks is the founder of Code4CT, an 18-month programme for high school girls that introduces them to coding, design-focused thinking and the IT industry in general. The curriculum Dicks developed has three key outcomes: to develop skills, shift girls’ perceptions about what they are capable of and foster an empowering environment for aspiring coders.
In addition, the programme ensures that girls have access to devices, connectivity and learning spaces, as well as a network of tutors and mentors. To assist with costs, Dicks has bursaries and internships to financially support the students to achieve their dreams.
Dicks’ focus is to empower young women in creating solutions to challenges in South Africa.
