Portia Maurice is responsible for strategic business transformation at Telkom’s digital enterprise subsidiary BCX. Prior to this she managed commercial operations for the African subsidiary of global digital media organisation The Conversation (www.theconversation.com).
Portia is a seasoned executive in the ICT industry, having held various positions in Vodacom, the African subsidiary of Vodafone, as well as in MTN Group. She was Managing Executive: Digital Services at Vodacom as well as Chief Officer: Corporate Affairs. At MTN she held leadership roles in the strategic investments and corporate affairs divisions. Prior to this she spent five years in the South African public service, which included a period in the Presidency’s Government Communication and Information System. As a journalist she has worked at titles such as the Mail and Guardian, Argus Group and SABC.
Her main interests are in the digital economy, social innovation, renewable energy, entrepreneurship and shaping the future.
Portia is an alumni of the Harvard Business School-Wits University Senior Executive Program. She holds an MBA from the Gordon Institute of Business Science (University of Pretoria), a Masters degree in Television from London University’s Goldsmiths College, an Honours (African Studies) from UCT and a B.Journalism degree from Rhodes University.
She sits on the Board of Governors of Rhodes University.
