Sorene Assefa

Founder and Managing Director at Cyber Czar (Pty) Ltd., Sorene, set up Cyber Czar with a mission to provide protection for the most vulnerable including women; girl child; and children, against cybercrimes by strengthening their knowledge and skills of Cybersecurity, and ultimately contributing towards the culture of Cybersecurity in South Africa. A strong and committed team leader who doubles as the Chief Cybersecurity Officer of Cyber Czar, Sorene sets strategic directions with which the firm pursues its business and commitment. Cybersecurity is our shared responsibility and Sorene believes and stresses the Importance of a Multi-stakeholder approach to address Cybersecurity challenges. Levering her experience, Sorene has forged strong partnership with the National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCSA), which is the public private partnership working with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), NGOs and major private sector players to promote Cybersecurity awareness.

Currently Cyber Czar is a STOP. THINK. CONNECT™ initiative partner, and National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCAM) Cyber Aware Champion, and Privacy Aware Champion. Sorene is passionate and resolute about inspiring and empowering young women play increased role in technology, most specifically in the area of Cybersecurity and Online Safety for Children. Sorene is using Cyber Czar as a platform to attract more women into the field of Cybersecurity. Cyber Czar is in this regard providing training and exposure to women. Sorene holds a postgraduate degree (MSc) in Computer Science from the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. She is also a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP®), PRINCE2® Practitioner, amongst other certifications within the area of Internet Governance and Cybersecurity.
