Stephanie Cowper is a South African entrepreneur who’s passionate about technology & improving the world in which we live. As a young woman who is new to the world of entrepreneurship, she has had to learn fast, know when to reach out for help from peers and mentors, and when necessary be confident in her decisions to do things differently.
Stephanie’s focus is on accessible technology with an emphasis on the visually impaired & deafblind communities. In 2014, with developer Giacomo Parmeggiani, she co-founded a tech startup called BeSpecular. On 1 July 2016, the BeSpecular app was launched at the American Council of the Blind’s annual conference in Minneapolis (USA). Later in 2016 Stephanie and Giacomo represented BeSpecular at the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness Convention that took place in Durban. The BeSpecular app is being successful and used by approximately 10,000 people.
